Down the Black River presents the “Round Top Compositions” by Sergio Molina in their first world recording, performed by the Quaternaglia Guitar Quartet. The album documents a long-term artistic collaboration with the Round Top Festival Institute in Texas (USA), bringing together composer and ensemble through a series of commissioned premieres.
The program features four works: O percurso das Almas Cansadas (2005), Quinteto para um outro tempo (2007), Down the Black River into the Dark Night (2009), and Song of the Universal (2018). Written for diverse formations — from guitar quartet to combinations with piano and orchestra — the pieces display rich textures, harmonic sophistication, and a strong narrative impulse.
Recorded in Brazil, the project includes special appearances by pianist Rogério Zaghi and an orchestra conducted by Emiliano Patarra. The result is a recording of outstanding artistic and sonic quality, highlighting the expressive range of the guitar in both chamber and symphonic contexts.
Down the Black River is an essential release for listeners interested in contemporary guitar repertoire and in Brazilian concert music within an international framework.
