Bellinati’s Mosaic – Quaternaglia is an essential album for understanding why Paulo Bellinati stands at the center of the modern history of the Brazilian guitar and how his music achieved international resonance. In this release, the acclaimed Quaternaglia Guitar Quartet presents Bellinati’s complete works for guitar quartet, revealing a style that is idiomatic, virtuosic, and deeply rooted in Brazilian musical traditions such as lundu, maxixe, baião, frevo, maracatu, and the Brazilian waltz.

The long-standing collaboration between Bellinati and Quaternaglia, which began in the 1990s, reaches a special milestone in this commemorative recording. All works appear in newly prepared versions, and in selected tracks Bellinati himself joins the quartet as a performer, playing a historic 1935 violão seresta with steel strings, adding a distinctive color and sense of authenticity to the album.

The project is further enriched by guest artists who broaden its sonic palette. Ari Colares, a leading authority on Brazilian percussion, intensifies the rhythmic energy of the frevo, maracatu, and maxixe movements, while producer Swami Jr. contributes a creative electric bass line to Carlo’s Dance, expanding the chamber texture beyond the four guitars.

At the heart of the album lies Bellinati’s Mosaic (2021) by Sérgio Assad, a work built from fragments and motifs drawn from Bellinati’s own music. Constantly reshaped and reassembled, these musical “tiles” create new connections and perspectives, allowing each piece on the album to be heard anew and casting fresh light on Bellinati’s remarkable contribution to the guitar repertoire
