In the EP A Touch of Time, award-winning guitarist Anabel Montesinos reveals the beauty and depth of Baroque music through transcriptions specially conceived for the modern guitar. With refined interpretations of works by Domenico Scarlatti and Johann Sebastian Bach, Anabel brings together the tradition of the Baroque period and the expressive Spanish character of the guitar, creating a unique dialogue between technique, sensitivity, and historical authenticity.
The first three tracks — Sonatas K.1, K.53, and K.27 by Scarlatti — come to life in arrangements for two guitars, both performed by the artist herself. Recording each voice separately, Anabel builds an exceptionally cohesive, balanced, and musical duet, in which every line interacts naturally, as if two performers were in perfect harmony.
Bach’s Invention in F Major, BWV 779 serves as a bridge between the two Baroque giants, highlighting the didactic character and contrapuntal clarity that define the original work. Its lightness prepares the listener for the emotional climax of the EP.
Closing the album, the monumental Ciaccona from the Partita No. 2 for Violin (BWV 1004) emerges in an intense and introspective solo interpretation. Here, Anabel demonstrates absolute command of the instrument, exploring contrasts of character, density, and affect throughout the 63 variations that make this piece one of the most profound works in music history. The Spanish heritage of the guitar resonates both in the dance’s origins and in the scales and articulations employed by the performer.
