Elegance, virtuosity, and expression define Inspiración – Guitar Music from South America, the debut album by Glauber Rocha for GuitarCoop. Launched onto the international stage after winning the Agustín Barrios International Web Guitar Competition in 2009 in Asunción, Glauber offers a refined and deeply musical portrait of South American repertoire for solo guitar.
At the heart of the program lies the music of Agustín Barrios Mangoré, a central figure in Latin American guitar history. Works such as Pais de Abanico, Julia Florida, Un Sueño en la Floresta, and the poignant Waltz op. 8 No.3 are performed with clarity, simplicity, and a transparent tone that reveals the composer’s poetic sound world.
From Argentina comes Sonata No.2 by Carlos Guastavino, a quintessential example of his lyrical, neoclassical style and unwavering commitment to tonal tradition. Glauber’s interpretation highlights the work’s formal balance and expressive restraint.
Brazilian music is prominently represented by Francisco Mignone, a master of musical nationalism. Two Études and two Waltzes showcase his serenade-like lyricism, harmonic refinement, and vibrant rhythmic language, hallmarks of his guitar writing.
The album concludes with Appassionata by Ronaldo Miranda, a powerful and demanding work, performed here with both intensity and control. Widely praised by critics and embraced by guitarists worldwide, the piece adds a contemporary and expressive dimension to the program.
Inspiración is a compelling celebration of the richness, diversity, and identity of South American guitar music, presented by an artist of remarkable maturity and sensitivity.
