Alma Llanera is Anabel Montesinos’ first exclusive album for GuitarCoop and an immediate statement of her artistic stature in today’s classical guitar scene. From the very first measures, her playing stands out for its refined technique, rhythmic fluency, carefully shaped dynamics, and a deep, radiant tone that remains full even in the most virtuosic passages.
Dedicated to Latin American music, the album presents a carefully curated collection of short, single-movement works rooted in the popular traditions of Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay, and Argentina, while maintaining a high level of musical sophistication. Iconic pieces by Agustín Barrios form the backbone of the program, alongside Venezuelan classics such as Alma Llanera by Pedro Elías Gutiérrez and El Marabino by Antonio Lauro, as well as works by Ariel Ramírez, Astor Piazzolla, and Manuel Ponce.
A special highlight is Montesinos’ deep engagement with Brazilian repertoire, featuring music by Villa-Lobos, Dilermando Reis, Marco Pereira, Guinga, Paulo Bellinati, and Sergio Assad — offering a vivid and expressive panorama of the Brazilian guitar tradition.
Inspired by the line “I am brother to the foam, the herons, the roses, and the sun,” Alma Llanera is a poetic and immersive journey through Latin American culture, inviting listeners to return again and again, discovering new nuances with each listen.
