Edson Lopes in Concert celebrates the journey of a guitarist whose presence since the late 1970s has embodied technical excellence, musical integrity, and lasting inspiration within the Brazilian guitar tradition.
Born in São Paulo in 1957, Edson Lopes graduated from the Dramatic and Musical Conservatory of Tatuí in 1978 — the same year he won the 2nd Young Instrumentalists Competition broadcast by Rede Globo, as well as a national guitar competition sponsored by Banco do Brasil. He achieved first prize in every competition he entered, recognized for his clarity of tone, technical command, and interpretative maturity.
In 1979, he furthered his studies in Santiago de Compostela under José Tomás, assistant to Andrés Segovia, and was awarded the distinction of “most outstanding student.” The legendary Argentine guitarist María Luisa Anido described him as “an extraordinary guitarist,” praising his technical assurance, tonal refinement, and expressive subtlety.
Edson Lopes in Concert captures the artist at the height of his artistry: a complete musician distinguished by luminous tone, elegant phrasing, and profound musical sensitivity. In an era often marked by artificial aesthetics and uniformity, his playing reaffirms essential values — authenticity, beauty of sound, and the joy of performance.
