In this recording, Zoran Dukic proposes a carefully structured dialogue between two distinct aesthetic worlds: Johann Sebastian Bach and Astor Piazzolla. By rigorously alternating works by both composers, the program creates a continuous narrative that transcends a simple pairing of repertoire, forming an implicit suite that bridges German Baroque architecture and the expressive intensity of Argentine tango.
The selected works by Bach originate from the Köthen period (1717–1723) and include slow movements from the Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, as well as the Sarabande from Cello Suite No. 5 (BWV 1011), traditionally performed on guitar through the lute version (BWV 995). In dialogue with these works are emblematic compositions by Piazzolla written between 1959 and 1980 — including Adiós Nonino, Invierno Porteño, Milonga del Ángel, La muerte del Ángel, and the movement “Romántico” from the Cinco Piezas para Guitarra, his only original work for solo guitar.
Beyond stylistic contrast, the album reveals structural and expressive affinities: Bach’s lucid polyphony provides a resonant foundation for Piazzolla’s tense lyricism and rhythmic vitality. Heard in sequence, the tracks form a cohesive expressive arc, in which tonalities, gestures, and atmospheres unfold organically.
Through technical precision and interpretative depth, Zoran Dukic affirms the guitar as a meeting point between traditions, highlighting both the enduring relevance of Bach and the artistic intensity of Piazzolla within a unified sonic perspective.
