Down the Black River presents the first world recording of the “Round Top Compositions” by Sergio Molina, performed by the Quaternaglia Guitar Quartet. The project consolidates a long-standing artistic collaboration with the Round Top Festival Institute (Texas, USA), an institution internationally recognized for its commitment to concert music performance and education.
The album brings together four works composed between 2005 and 2018 — O percurso das Almas Cansadas, Quinteto para um outro tempo, Down the Black River into the Dark Night, and Song of the Universal — written for varied instrumental settings ranging from guitar quartet to combinations with piano and orchestra. The works demonstrate refined craftsmanship, textural sophistication, and a broad expressive scope, expanding the guitar’s presence in both chamber and symphonic contexts.
Recorded in Brazil, the project features pianist Rogério Zaghi and orchestra conducted by Emiliano Patarra, underscoring the artistic and technical standards of the production.
Down the Black River stands as a significant contribution to contemporary Brazilian guitar repertoire, combining interpretative excellence, aesthetic coherence, and international artistic dialogue.
