Description

GuitarCoop proudly presents “The Guitars of Sergio and Eduardo Abreu”, now available in digital format and on physical CD. This is one of the most emblematic albums in the history of the classical guitar, recorded in 1969 at EMI Abbey Road Studios in London and released worldwide in 1971 by CBS Records.

Captured at the height of the legendary Duo Abreu, the album became an absolute reference for guitarists and lovers of the instrument. Its combination of crystalline sound, vibrant interpretations, and impeccable artistic balance established it as a landmark in the repertoire for two guitars. Sergio Abreu attributed part of this magic to the very instruments used in the sessions: a 1930 Hauser and a 1920 Santos Hernández.

The program brings together works the duo performed in their late-1960s concerts, shaping a musical experience that unfolds almost like a suite. The repertoire includes:

📜Renaissance pieces from the Jane Pickering Lute Book;

🎻The lyrical canon style of Georg Philipp Telemann and the charm of Domenico Scarlatti;

⚡The Baroque vigor of the Prelude from The Well-Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach;

🎼The Classical expressiveness of Christian Gottlieb Scheidler;

💎A condensed and brilliant version of L’Encouragement by Fernando Sor;

🇪🇸 And, in the final section, 20th-century Spanish masterpieces by Enrique Granados, Joaquín Rodrigo, Isaac Albéniz, and Manuel de Falla, presented in breathtaking arrangements and performances.

Each track reveals the unmistakable style of the Duo Abreu: flawless virtuosity, rhythmic precision, tonal clarity, and a musicality that has inspired performers around the world for decades.

Now, this historic album — revered since its original vinyl release — can be experienced both in high-quality digital format and in a newly issued physical CD edition, ideal for collectors and admirers of the duo’s classic sound.
